Glossary of Conditions, Issues, and Terms in Vocational Rehabilitation

People explore occupational and vocational rehabilitation for a variety of reasons. Some may seek services to address functional limitations and adapt to academic, educational/training, or workplace environments.

Others may seek assistance with recovering from health and medical illnesses, injuries, and disabilities; or overcoming barriers to employment or school. They may wish to find and maintain a suitable career through training, education, and job placement. There may be a need for learning how to adjust to and cope with the psychosocial aspects of their condition.

Ultimately, most people are seeking support with achieving a personal, career, or independent living goal. There could be uncertainty with how to go about entering, maintaining, or returning to school or work to increase their independence and quality of life.
